If We Were Having Coffee…

Posted July 15, 2020 / If We Were Having Coffee, Personal / Information / Etc. / 2 Comments

I LOVE reading personal posts from other bloggers and seeing Jamie’s “If We Were Having Coffee” feature take off is so fun. Laura and Lindsey also have some great spin-offs of this feature too. I was very tempted to also make mine margarita-related (like Lindsey) but coffee is so ingrained in my daily life that it just makes sense to keep it. If you’re not familiar, it basically involves a fake little conversation about what’s been happening in our lives lately. Read on to see what’s been happening lately and feel free to chat back in the comments!

If we were having coffee… I’d talk about how it’s been forever since I’ve done one of these posts. The most recent one was in February of last year. It feels like an eternity ago since 2020 has been simultaneously the longest year ever and the shortest year ever.

If we were having coffee… I’d probably also start by asking how you’re doing. It seems like a dumb question though because honestly, is ANYONE having a good year? Anywhere? Probably not. It’s a perfect storm of shit at all times, only made worse by the dumbest person possible “leading” our country. I could go on and on about everything happening. A lot of it is fully necessary, like the Black Lives Matter movement and arresting Breonna Taylor’s murderers. A lot of it is NOT necessary, like DEBATING MASKS as if it’s a political issue instead of common sense. People bitch that Coronavirus is neverending and they want to leave their houses, but they refuse to do the one thing that will slow it down and allow things to reopen. It’s absurd. BYE.

If we were having coffee… I’d show you a million pics of our new puppy, Miller! I spoke about him last week and he’s completely adorable. He really came into his own after the first week lol. He has major puppy energy and our new enforced nap schedule has been really helpful. Puppies don’t know when they’re tired a lot of the time; they keep playing and boosting adrenaline, which results in a lot of nipping and zoomies. Basically we have him awake for 1-2 hours, including play, training, mealtime (if needed), out, etc., and around that time he gets a little crazy and ready for a nap. He goes in the crate and immediately falls asleep for 1-3 hours. We just repeat this cycle throughout the day to maintain his energy and make sure he gets naps! He’s a LOT of work. We were originally looking to adopt a dog 2-3 years old but it worked out perfectly to get Miller instead. I’m looking forward to the end of the teething stage in a few months!

If we were having coffee… YOU might ask ME about the wedding planning. It happens a lot 😉 We had originally planned to get married after 2 years of engagement because we felt no need to rush. We just don’t care that much lol. So COVID has not affected our wedding date (October 9th next year)! We have the venue, photographer, and DJ booked, which are the biggest ones. We haven’t picked anything like flowers or colors or save the dates. Speaking of that, we were supposed to have our engagement photos last week but (a) the weather was bad and (b) we couldn’t bring Miller without his vaccinations. SO we’re rescheduled for the end of the month.

If we were having coffee… I would talk your ear off about my reading slump. I was really hoping that spending more time at home would improve reading but I find myself being even lazier. Add in the dog and my reading has gone even further down the tubes. I just don’t feel like doing anything and even when I WANT to read or blog, I don’t really have time to because I have to manage working and the dog. I’m reading some good books I’ve been excited for so hopefully things pick up at some point.

If we were having coffee… I’d ask for your opinion on reducing your Goodreads goal. I’ve met or exceeded my challenge every year since I started blogging and 120 books has been a good sweet spot for me. I’ve never thought about reducing my challenge or NOT meeting it. I know most people I’ve polled say “eh just leave it, who cares if you don’t meet the goal” but for some reason I like the idea of reducing it. I think my life has changed (all of our lives have!) and my goals are different now. I’ll feel good if I reach 100 books. Should I change it? UGH. Such a stupid thing to focus on.

  1. To be honest, I can’t believe you’ve already read 50 books! That’s 15 more than my actual year goal! Although I’m hoping now it’s finally the summer holidays I can spend more time reading. End of term exhausted me so much I couldn’t even hold my book!
