Reading Recap #6 (including End of 2015 TBR!)

Because my reviews are usually posted at least a month after I finish the book, I never really talk about what I’m currently reading or just finished reading. This Reading Recap feature will let you know the the books I just finished, am currently reading, and plan to read next. Past recaps here! I wasn’t sure what I wanted to listen to for an audiobook, so I decided to use a Scribd credit on Fairest by Marissa Meyer. I also have this out from the library, so I plan on mixing the two of them. (You know how much I love to do that!) I’m also reading Icing on the Lake by Catherine Clark to kickstart my wintery holiday reads. I also found it on Scribd, so that saves a few bucks on the ebook 😉 I love these older romantic comedy-style contemporary books. I want to save some of my really Christmas-oriented books for later on in the month. I somehow finished an 800 page book within a few days and managed to read a total of 17 books in November (that does include a DNF). I read three books in a row that received 4 stars, then had a couple of duds. The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater was a Book Buddies pick for Kaitlin and me during November. I enjoyed it overall, but am mostly intrigued to see what happens next. I Am Princess X by Cherie Priest was a far-fetched but fun read that my real life book club chose for tonight’s meeting. […]

Reading Recap #5

Because my reviews are usually posted at least a month after I finish the book, I never really talk about what I’m currently reading or just finished reading. This Reading Recap feature will let you know the the books I just finished reading and listening to, as well as the books I’m currently reading and listening to. Past recaps here! It’s been a while since I’ve posted one of these! I won’t bore you with all of the books I’ve read, but I’ve been kind of itching to share some of my reading stats. These posts usually just talk about alllll the books happening in my life. Because my reading challenge is looking wonderful AND I started keeping track of specifics, I want to share some statistics before the end of the year. I just can’t wait, okay? September is my birthday month so I’ll do whateva I want. 2015 has easily been my best reading year of all time. Before blogging, I would be lucky to read a few books a year. Now? My Goodreads challenge is 11 books ahead with a grand total of 129 books read this year, out of my goal of 175 books. Here’s how it’s broken down by types of read and how many books per month I’ve read:Best month: July with 25 books (holy shit) | Worst month: March with 10 books Best month by average rating: January, 4.2 | Worst month by average rating: February & April, 3.67 Most pages read in a month: 7,641 in July […]

Reading Recap #4

Because my reviews are usually posted at least a month after I finish the book, I never really talk about what I’m currently reading or just finished reading. This Reading Recap feature will let you know the the books I just finished reading and listening to, as well as the books I’m currently reading and listening to. Past recaps here! It’s been a while since I’ve posted one of these! I won’t bore you with the twenty two books I’ve read or listened to since the last recap, but will give you just a few of my recent books. Mirrored by Alex Flinn | I’ve been really excited to read more retellings lately, but this one didn’t work for me. I actually loved the retelling elements of the story and thought the plotline was cool, but the rest was very blah. The pacing was off, the characters were okay, and the writing style was NOT for me. Lying Out Loud by Kody Keplinger | Ah, yes, another Kody Keplinger to add to the list! I will definitely read her grocery list. This one wasn’t AS big of a hit with me as the others I’ve read by her, but it was overall really enjoyable still. Full Frontal Feminism by Jessica Valenti | YAY I FINISHED! For a book that I looooved and gave five stars, it sure took me a while to read. I loved getting back into women’s studies a bit and taking my time with this one. Everyone – feminist or […]

Reading Recap #3

Because my reviews are usually posted at least a month after I finish the book, I never really talk about what I’m currently reading or just finished reading. This Reading Recap feature will let you know the the books I just finished reading and listening to, as well as the books I’m currently reading and listening to. Past recaps here! Kissing in America by Margo Rabb | I just finished this book Friday morning, right before my blog tour review post was due. Talk about procrastination. I really liked this one a lot! The main character could be a bit intense and annoying at times, but it was kind of addicting and had GREAT messages. I love that family, friends, and overcoming fears trumped romance in this book. Between the Lines by Jodi Picoult and Samantha van Leer | This book was for the YA book club I started in my area! We thought it would be a good first pick because Picoult is a well-known adult fiction author, and would provide a nice segue into YA if people hadn’t read it yet. This book was… pretty good. I think we all agreed it was VERY young and silly, but it did a great job of mirroring a fairy tale. We had some issues with plot holes but it was extremely readable and quick. The Summer of Chasing Mermaids by Sarah Ockler | Yet again, my expectations crush my bookish dreams. When will I learn? This was a book that I was HIGHLY anticipating and was really excited […]

Reading Recap #2

Because my reviews are usually posted at least a month after I finish the book, I never really talk about what I’m currently reading or just finished reading. This Reading Recap feature will let you know the the books I just finished reading and listening to, as well as the books I’m currently reading and listening to. Past recaps here! Split Second by Kasie West | I’m officially done reading all of Kasie West’s published books and it’s making me very sad. I absolutely love her writing – and this book was no exception! I was really just in the mood for it and finally decided to read it. It’s been sitting on my shelf since February. If you haven’t read this duology, I HIGHLY suggest you try it out! All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven | This book messed me up, dude. I was convinced that I wasn’t going to like it for some reason (maybe because it was blurbed with Eleanor & Park + John Green and that bugs me to no end). I couldn’t stop reading it even though it felt like not much was actually happening… then, the last fifty pages BROKE ME. I’m no longer a functioning human. The Pretty App by Katie Sise | I kind of rushed to finish this book and post the review right around the pub date. It was cute enough, but didn’t blow me away. I honestly don’t have much to say about it… I liked its predecessor a bit more! When by Victoria Laurie |Yep, this one was not enjoyable at all. […]

Reading Recap #1

Because my reviews are usually posted at least a month after I finish the book, I never really talk about what I’m currently reading or just finished reading. This Reading Recap feature will let you know the the books I just finished reading and listening to, as well as the books I’m currently reading and listening to. Past recaps here! Emmy & Oliver by Robin Benway | I absolutely LOVED this book. I kind of liked Audrey, Wait! by Robin Benway, but not enough to be super excited about reading the rest of her books. I loved the synopsis for this one when I saw it but I was hesitant. I had no reason to be, because it was so damn good. I truly have no complaints about it. Definitely add this to your TBRs for when it comes out, folks! Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo | Such a solid end to the trilogy! It was easily my favorite book of the three and everything wrapped up so nicely. I was happy to see Mal being less annoying and pathetic in this one and was felt good about the ship that sailed. I already reviewed this one here for Book Buddies. Harmonic by Erica O’Rourke | Usually I might not bother with including a novella here, but this did not read like one! My one usual gripe with novellas, especially if they’re too short, is that everything feels condensed and rushed. This one had a great amount of action and […]
