A New Bookmark Lit?

Posted September 18, 2017 / Discussions, Features, Personal / Information / Etc. / 22 Comments

My blog has gone through a lot of changes, appearance-wise, since I started back in 2014. My graphics were very… juvenile?… for a long time. I still have an addiction to using too many fonts in them, but I think I’ve cleaned things up a little bit 🙂 I’ve always focused this blog on books. I’ve done a few more personal posts within the last year or so, but the majority has been book-related: reviews, discussions, memes, wrap-ups… all about the books. I still plan on being bookish, obviously, so don’t worry. I talked about this a little bit in my “coming up for Bookmark Lit in 2017” post but hope to expand on it even more right now. I planned to…

✔️ Consolidate backlist reviews into round-up posts

✔️ Give ARC reviews solo treatment, for the most part

✖️ Post 4 times per week (sometimes more or less is okay)

✔️ Revamp memes and other features (add, delete, or continue)

✔️ More personal posts and ~lifestyle things~

I’ve done a decent job of these things but still feel burnt out when it comes to talking about book-related things all the time. I love reading and it’ll always be a huge priority for me – and the main focus of this blog – but I don’t have as many discussions as I’d like anymore.

Instead of spending 90% of my posts on bookish things, you can expect to see more like 75%-80% starting soon. As you can tell, the vast majority of things will still be bookish. I toyed with the idea of changing my blog name and doing a whole new shebang, but I want to take things slow. I don’t envision this space as ever being a lifestyle blog, but I’d love to post about clothes, food, makeup, and other more personal things as time goes on. My book reviews will still be here and I’ll have a lot of my usual stuff too.

I changed my blog header to reflect my small shift in focus, so don’t be surprised when you see things like “10 of my favorite recipes right now” or “TV shows I plan to watch this fall.” I’ve already done those kinds of posts in the past, so it’s nothing new, but they may be here MORE. For fun, check out how my blog headers have evolved over the years too, below!

Blog Header Evolution

What do you think? Will you stick with me as my blog becomes 3/4 bookish and 1/4 personal instead?

  1. I want to start doing more personal posts as well, to spice things up. It can get tiring doing only book reviews, so I think it’s a good idea. And for sure I’ll still be reading your blog regularly! 🙂

  2. A lot of the “book” blogs I read also talk about personal things, like TV or travel. I talk about hiking a lot on my own blog. I like it when bloggers talk about other stuff, it helps us as readers to get to know the blogger better and sometimes it’s just fun to read about something different. Good luck and have fun with the new direction!

  3. I’ll still be here 🙂 I like the new header, I’m constantly changing mine so I definitely feel you on the font issue. They’re all too pretty.

I’m here for whatever you want to do. I enjoy reading your blog every week and will read whatever you write. Keep up the good work, Lauren!

  5. I am excited to see where your blog is heading. I love reading about recipes and tv shows and the like. I have been posting some movie reviews and such on my blog too now and again to spice things up a bit. Also, your new header is beautiful!

  6. Yes I’ll stick with you no matter what you do! And I really like your new header, even if it is a subtle change. Sometimes those are the best things.

Also I have always been envious of your graphics, so keep doing what you’re doing!

  7. I’m definitely staying! I love reading about books, obviously, but I also really love getting to know the person behind the blog.
