Things are still going really strong with reading for this year! I’m way ahead on my Goodreads goal and only have to complete ONE BOOK to finish. Ironically I’ve been stuck on two books since before the weekend and have yet to cross that bridge. I had a super busy weekend but hopefully I can crank through the rest of my TBR before next week.
Currently reading: I’m currently trying to get through ARC August but also following my moods and library holds lol. I’m reading YOU, WITH A VIEW from Libby on my Kindle. I decided to splurge and get the audiobook for NONE OF THIS IS TRUE in addition to my BOTM copy that finally came in, so I’ll be focusing on finishing that up soon too.
Currently audiobook-ing: See above. I have another audio mystery/thriller out from the library as well (ONE OF US IS BACK) that I need to get to but I’m concerned my other holds of the physical copy and ebook aren’t going to coincide. Ideally, I’ll finish my current audiobook and immediately start this one even if the other copies aren’t in yet.
Currently recommending: I recently posted my five-star reads of 2023 so far, of which there are technically ten. I featured nine of them in the post because one was a children’s graphic novel that I didn’t review.
Currently in my cart: Nothing right now! I did make a fun list on Goodreads for books I want to buy at some point though. I like going to bookstores randomly and browsing, but never remember what I’d like to add to my shelves off the top of my head. This list allows me to look for specific titles when I otherwise may have forgotten to check around for anything specific.
Currently adding to my TBR: My unreleased book shelf is looking a little slim! Lots of OG book bloggers aren’t really doing it anymore so I’ve been browsing Goodreads lists to try to find upcoming releases. I used to track so many of them! I literally have multiple windows open right now with recommendation lists and books that people are looking forward to in 2024. I’m also adding some recent fantasy releases to my TBR too. I’ve been back in the mood a bit this year! 🙂
Currently pre-ordered: I’ve been a preorder machine this year. I’ve only been doing it through Barnes and Noble (fuck Amazon for books) across a few different orders, so here are the ones I have preordered (per my spreadsheet):
- THE BROTHERS HAWTHORNE by JLB – because obviously
- LET’S EAT and SKINNYTASTE SIMPLE – two cookbooks
- SUDDENLY A MURDER by Lauren Munoz – sooo excited for this one. It’s rare that I preorder a book by a new-to-me author!
- A CURSE FOR TRUE LOVE by Stephanie Garber – planning to read all three books in a row; this is the final book in the trilogy
- THE GRAHAM EFFECT by Elle Kennedy – couldn’t resist a book with Garrett/Hannah as parents
- BOOKSHOPS & BONEDUST by Travis Baldree – adored the first book
Currently on hold at the library: I recently subscribed to the Charlotte, NC public library system ($45/year) to have access to Hoopla and a much bigger selection on Libby. As a result, my library holds (between that and my library) are more than I can handle. I’ve been suspending my holds and pushing them off for months for a few of these books… whoops! I’m planning on doing “Library September” to get through some of the books I have checked out (both digital and physical) after doing ARC August.
Currently NetGalley-ing: I’m definitely doing better with Netgalley lately. My goal for ARC August was to read 8 books and I think I’ll be able to finish 6-7, which is great. I wanted to catch up on some older releases (even if that means “earlier this year” instead of true backlist). Here are the six books I was recently granted access to:
Other Hobbies & Things
Currently watching: We haven’t been watching a lot on TV except for some preseason football lol. I track my shows in TV Time and the ones you see are the shows Chris and I watch together. I personally have been horrific with my favorite shows. I’m multiple episodes (sometimes seasons!) behind on my favorite shows: The Summer I Turned Pretty, Only Murders in the Building, How I Met Your Father, Virgin River, Sweet Magnolias… and so many more. Ugh.
Currently listening: My podcast feed has been very sad and dry. The Unsolved Mysteries podcast has come to an end and my favorite, And Then They Were Gone, has been a bit more inactive on and off lately. Nothing is holding my attention. It’s a good time to get back into my audiobooks, that’s for sure!
Currently wearing: This summer has been relatively lazy. We have a lot of busy days, travel, and vacations, but then we just loaf around to recover for days! I’ve been wearing a lot of bike shorts with big tee shirts during work. I did buy some cute dresses and tops from a boutique recently though, so I have options for when we go to Vermont/New York next week!
Currently in my cart: Honestly not much! I keep buying stickers and bookmarks from Etsy but that’s nothing new. My favorite book sleeve (and corner bookmarks) are from Happy Go Lovely Sleeves! I highly recommend her products – they’re so cute and addicting to collect.
Currently drinking: My favorite coffees lately have come from Chamberlain Coffee! I love the single serve bags for all of our travel this summer but get the beans of various flavors to make my coffee at home. I’ve been taking advantage of some of the fun features on my coffee machine to make iced coffee instead of just plain hot coffee.
Currently eating: My little “to cook” list is on the left because I’ve been trying to get better about meal planning without buying too many groceries. I was definitely one of those people who annoyingly panicked about not having enough food/groceries during Covid and we still have so much stuff to use up and eat! Like I’ve said a few times, we’ve done a lot of traveling this summer and have gone out to eat a lot more than usual, I’d say. Here are some pics of recent favorites (I’ll call out what they are and where they’re from below):
Wurstplate and schnitzel from The Student Prince restaurant; some delicious Mexican seafood dishes at Pescador in Boston; mac and cheese cone and Italian sausage sub at the Hartford Yard Goats game; my favorite easy dinner – ravioli bake; homemade El Pollo Guapo bowls
Current Feels
Currently celebrating: Nothing yet but September always kicks off our celebratory months! More below.
Currently loving: We’ve been making efforts to hang out a little more with friends as well as get out of the house! We’ve booked three comedy shows (one was earlier this month and two are coming up) and it’s been fun to get out for different things like that. I’ve started making monthly plans with two of my girlfriends as well. We’ve been up to Maine a handful of times over the last couple of months too and it’s been great as always.
Currently looking forward to: SEPTEMBER! My favorite month of the year is right around the corner. I have so much going on that I’m excited about. We’re going on vacation from this Saturday through Thursday, then have an extra long weekend at home to finish the week into Labor Day. Football starts, my birthday, a fun concert with friends, a camping trip, our dating anniversary, a comedy show or two, and finally meeting my friends’ twins!
Currently procrastinating: Well, my answer from last time still applies. I was just thinking about it this morning. So, may as well leave it… Setting up our filing cabinet! My dad snagged us one and I have yet to fill it with anything. We have a lot of random crap we need to organize, get rid of, or store somewhere else. Our house is super small and we’re probably going to be here for another couple of years so we really need to get things looking great to enjoy our time here, since it’ll be a little longer than expected.
Currently accomplishing: I keep rushing myself into getting books read even though I’m so far ahead of my Goodreads goal lol so yes, this is a big accomplishment! And I should soak it in a little bit. Maybe try to read a LITTLE less over the last few months so I can enjoy other hobbies and shows.
Currently thinking about: What snack I should go down and grab. We had amazing BLTs for lunch but as usual (ugh) I skipped breakfast so still need something in me.
Currently feeling: This weekend was incredibly busy. I didn’t stop moving or traveling or seeing people from basically noon on Friday through Saturday at 10pm. It was a lot and I’m just happy to hang out with Chris and Miller for the first half of this week without doing much else.
