Challenge Check-In and Planning

Posted July 1, 2024 / Book Challenges, Features / 1 Comment

It’s no secret that I love a reading challenge, but I’ll be honest – I haven’t done a great job lately of keeping up with them. I’ve barely completed any readathons either! I thought, as usual, the midyear point is a great time to assess challenge progress and discuss future TBRs. I’m participating in one summer-long reading challenge that I should come up with ideas for, as well as Summerween next week. Today I’ll check in on my year-long challenges and brainstorm TBR ideas for all the things.

2024 Challenge Progress

Popsugar and 52 Book Club

I haven’t loved the prompts for this year’s challenge so I haven’t gone out of my way to plan TBRs for them. If something fits, great. I’m not certain it’s worth the effort of coming up with TBRs for them now. Just know I’ve read 24 books out of 52 for The 52 Book Club and only 13 books for Popsugar! Wild.

Book Cover Bingo

I’m confident I can make this one work by the end of the year. Some of these items are super fantasy-oriented, which I usually save for fall… so I have a good feeling 3-4 will be completed this fall. Here’s a quick TBR to get through the final seven prompts. (I really have no idea for the dragon one…)

Dragon // Sword // Crown // Skull // Purple cover // Musical instrument // Stars

24 in 24

I only read 5 books off this list in the first half of the year, which is not surprising and also not great. I thought I’d break the rest of my TBR down by season/time of year for general planning. Can I manage to do this? lol

July/August

The Grandest Game

Hemlock House

All the Dangerous Things

Pineapple Street

Just Another Missing Person

What Lies in the Woods

September/October

The Unmaking of June Farrow

Hell Bent

The Prisoner’s Throne

A Curious Beginning

The Agathas

My Murder

Suddenly a Murder

November/December

I Have Some Questions for You

Did You Hear About Kitty Karr?

My Contrary Mary

Five Survive

Summer Challenges

Summer Reading Challenge (June 1 – August 31)

This one is hosted by The Lit Homebody on Instagram and has a number of prompts to fill in. At the time of writing this, I’d read a few books but not a lot.

Has a one word title // Rivals

Has a movie adaption // Harold and the Purple Crayon

Is based on a true story // My Contrary Mary (based on Mary Queen of Scots)

Features MC with same first initial as you // One Perfect Couple (Lyla)

Is 500+ pages // Night Film

Is the first in a series // Every Time I Go on Vacation, Someone Dies

Is about camping or summer camp // Firefly Summer

Is a collection of short stories // Marple

Summerween (July 5 – 11)

I always join Summerween and am really excited to partake again! I usually pick books that can fit multiple categories since, as I’ll discuss below, I probably will finish less than five books. Aiming for 3-4!

Read a book in the dark // I always pick a random book for this one or double count something, since it’s unlikely I’ll read five books during Summerween. I typically count whichever book I’m reading on my Kindle at night before bed, since it has the backlit screen.

Read a thriller or horror book // Any of the books above

Read a book with a night sky on the cover // One Perfect Couple, Middle of the Night, Till Death Do Us Part

Read a book with five words in the title // Till Death Do Us Part

Read a book that takes place in the summer // Summers End
