I’m burnt out and just in the mood to be lazy with videos and podcasts instead of reading. I also should give myself a break every September and have zero reading expectations in general since my life gets super busy! Anyways, I made a strong push at the end of the month thanks to Contemporary-a-thon and managed to get some shit read. Another season, another round of bookish bingo! Bekka posted the new card on Twitter instead of on her blog this time around, so go check that out! As usual, this is mostly updated (as of 9/13’s finished books and current reads) with what I’ve read for the first half of September. My TBR ideas are subject to change of course! Read or Currently Reading Paranormal | Lair of Dreams by Bray I finished LAIR OF DREAMS this month for the Diviners Readalong. I’ve said it a hundred times by now, but I never should have slept on this series. I love it so much. The first book is my favorite of these two so far, but I am prepared for shit to get real in the next two books. Non-linear narrative | Girls’ Night Out by Steinke / Fenton This story alternated between three friends, but one of them went missing. Her perspective was in the past while the other two characters were primarily in the present day, after she went missing and they’re tying to find her. Definitely non-linear with these snapshots of the past! Author of color | Of Curses and Kisses by Menon I’m currently reading this one and I guess I could say I’m savoring it… but really I just haven’t been in the mood to read anything… even a book by one of my favorite authors. Sometimes I feature a little poll at the bottom so you guys can help me figure out a certain title I should read from a group of books. August Progress August was bizarre. I usually have a lot of success with ARC August but I think my lack of reading time or mojo hindered everything. I was lucky to pull off reading 9 books this past month, blazing through basically 3 entire books in the last few days/week of August. I had two readalongs, IRONSIDE and THE DIVINERS, that were spread out nicely in the first half of the month. We had Chris’s sister’s wedding later in the month and therefore Bout of Books was a failure. I didn’t meet my plans for 10 ARCS + 2 readalong books, but I did manage to read 9 total books… Up Next in September Review Copies I’ll keep up my five-ARC-TBR plans as usual, with my backlist, upcoming releases, freebies, and far-away pub date mixture. I’m actually doing okay on Netgalley right now and would love to get ahead on some of upcoming releases. I can’t post today without noting how we lost an integral, wonderful part of our community last week. Grace from Rebel Mommy’s Book Blog passed away from her hard-fought battle with cancer and she hasn’t left my mind since. I’ve organized a digital “card” for bookish people who knew her to sign. We will share it with her family this week (Thursday) so please share what she meant to you for her husband and children to read. If you knew her, you loved her, because she was such a bright spot online, with her thoughtful comments and never-ending positive attitude. Donations can be made in her memory to her charity organization of choice, METAvivor, here. June Progress I had a weird reading month for June because of my travel plans AND because I managed to stretch two books for way too long. I’d keep picking other things up for various required reading plans and then putting AURORA and NATALIE TAN aside for days or weeks at a time. I knew I wanted to finish both of them off in June, which I finally managed to do. I read for blog tours, book clubs, readathons, and just for myself! Up Next in July Summer Reads As discussed in my summery TBR post from the other day, I have a bunch of seasonal reads to check out over the next couple of months! I got off to a good start with Summerathon at the end of June, but there are plenty for July. I don’t need to post the same cover images so any of the books HERE will be possibly read in July! Hosted by Lock & Rose As usual, I’m here with another seasonal bingo TBR post and a quick recap on last month. I’m never married to these TBRs because things change and some books can go in multiple categories, but it always helps to have this post to check on again when I forget what to read next! Last month’s spring bingo card was a success – I ended up reading ALL the books for the prompts. I hope for the same success for summer bingo! I’ll dive into the books I’ve already read or am currently reading first and then get into the TBR part. Currently Reading / Already Completed Orange cover Screen Queens by Goldstein | I got lucky that there are multiple San Francisco books on my TBR for this week! I’ll talk more about that in a couple seconds but I had to read this Silicon Valley-based story for the blog tour this week. I didn’t have as much reading time over the previous weekend as I expected but I was able to get through this one in the nick of time, as well as use it for this prompt! Illustrated cover Aurora Rising by Kaufman/Kristoff | I started this in mid-May and just didn’t end up with a lot of audiobook reading time. May Progress I did a decent job in May, primarily thanks to blog tours and graphic novels! I also managed to read (or attempt to read) a few review copies. AGAIN, BUT BETTER just didn’t strike my fancy when I read the first few pages and I decided very early on to cut my losses, especially after seeing other similar reviews for the title. I got through SAGA volumes 5 and 6 for my Monthly Motif Challenge, which was for “one-sitting reads”…even though I didn’t technically read them in one sitting. They’re still books you could read in one sitting 😉 Up Next in June FaerieAThon Tithe by Holly Black I eagerly signed up for this readathon when it was half-announced a few months ago (when we all learned that QUEEN OF NOTHING would be happening in November instead of January!). It’s hosted by Jane, Kristin, Alexa, and Mel, and involves reading Holly Black’s backlist from June through November.
