Top Ten Tuesdays #59: Author Duos

Author Duos You’d LOVE To See Write A Book Together Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. This week’s topic is ten author duos you would love to see write a book together. Oddly this is not something I had really ever thought of! The first one below is really the only pairing I’ve thought about. As a result of that, I’m cheating a little (yes, I blame lack of ideas). I chose five author duos, meaning a total of ten authors. Here we goooo! Morgan Matson + Emery Lord I read my first books by both of these authors during the same summer a year ago. I fell for both of them hard and have found a lot of similarities in their style. I usually lump them together in my mind for some reason and I would LOVE to see what the two of them could come up with. Jenny Han + Sarah Dessen These two have written some of my absolute all-time favorite books! They usually involve well-rounded themes involving family, love, and friendship. I can’t even imagine what their book would be like (probably so amazing that my heart would explode). I WANT THAT. Kasie West + Stephanie Perkins My fluffy favorites! I’ve given 5 stars (or […]

Five on Fridays #17

Five on Friday displays the the top five things that have been on my mind this week! It could be book-related, but it may be music, movies, TV, personal life, food, etc. Previous posts can be found here! As of September 16th, Chris and I have been together for three years. It honestly feels like forever while also feeling like no time at all. Does that make sense? He and I definitely get caught up in the routine from time to time; we spend time together without actually spending ~time~ together. Sometimes we get into bed at night and I feel like I haven’t really talked with him, even though we were together all night. It’s nice to take some time to celebrate anniversaries and special occasions because it reminds you of how long you’ve been together, and not to take any of it for granted. We celebrated our anniversary by getting sushi at the restaurant we had dinner at for our very first date. Of course, if you asked me at that time if that dinner was a “date” in my mind, I would have said no! I didn’t exactly get the hint right away. Chris and I went to high school together and were friends there. He was even friends with my then-boyfriend and spent a good amount of time in our group. After graduating and being at college for three years, we hung out again because he was best friends with a girl I had been spending a lot of […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #58: Quitting

Five Book Topics I will NEVER Quit Reading About and Five Bookish Habits I Need to Quit Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. I love when the TTT allows me to pick a special topic (that gives a bit of guidance!)… but it usually means I can’t pick which topic I want to use. I decided to split this week’s list into two lists of five. The general topic is ten bookish things I want to quit or have quit. I decided to go with five book topics I’ll never quit reading about and five bookish habits I need to quit. Without further ado… Some of these may qualify as overdone tropes and some of them are just fun things I really will always love reading about. Some of my favorite books in the world feature one or more of these topics. I’ve included some similar topics in my read-bait series (yet to be finished…) because if any of these five things are included in a book, it’ll probably end up on my TBR and/or quickly become a favorite.Give meeeeee. Any book that’s full of banter is one for me. When there’s any HINT of this trope in the plot description, I must have it. I love the idea that two people can bicker so […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #57: Second Chance Summer

Top Ten Tuesdays #57: Second Chance Summer

Ten Books to Read if you Loved SECOND CHANCE SUMMER Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. A well-rounded summer contemporary with heavier issues & family feels Morgan Matson is a wonderful contemporary writer that almost every blogger has read at least one book by. My favorite of hers, so far, is Second Chance Summer. I cried like a baby throughout the ending and was constantly hit with different types of feels throughout. To me, this book is such a perfectly well-rounded summer contemporary. It had families dealing with complex issues (including father-daughter feels and sibling relationships), a childhood love that was reignited, unique themes of friendship and moving on from past mistakes, and an overall summer contemporary with heavier issues. I have a lot of recommendations for books based on these themes, so I figured that’d be a fun topic for this TTT! Here are all of the books I’d recommend based on specific elements of Second Chance Summer. KEEP IN MIND that I’m assuming you’ve read this book! Most of these stories flew under the radar, but there are a few more popular books intermixed here. What are you looking for? A book featuring a long lost or childhood love that comes back into the picture In Second Chance Summer, Taylor reunites with […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #56: Fall TBR

Ten Books on my Fall TBR List Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. I like to try to read a lot of different things, across genres, formats, and where I got them from. I am utterly terrible about sticking to a TBR each month because my moods change SO much. The only “required” reading I usually have to do is if I signed up for a blog tour, for my Book Buddies review, and for my real-life book club. I’ve wanted to find a TBR format that works for me so I can still have some kind of method to my madness and I’ve been lurking on Andi’s TBR methods for a while. I decided to try it for the rest of September and October. Here are some of the categories I came up with… I tried to think of the books I genuinely want to read this fall, and what categories they may fall into. I don’t want to restrict myself too much so I did leave a freebie option or two. I filled this page with categories – 18 books – but I will most likely exceed that number between the rest of September and all of October. That gives me even more wiggle room! Now, some […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #55: Excuses (Freebie)

Ten Books I’m VERY Excited to Read (and am Running Out of Excuses for Why I Haven’t Read Them Yet) Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. So, awhile back I did a TTT for the ten books I just NEEDED to buy ASAP but still haven’t read yet. I like the idea of that kind of post because it’s fun to make a TTT with books you haven’t read yet, as opposed to repeating the same all-time favorites too often. Next week’s topic is your fall TBR, but this week I’ll be bringing you ten books I was very excited to read but still haven’t for some reason. I’m also going to have a poll at the bottom in case you want to help me decide which I should read by the end of the year. I PROMISE to read at least one of them by the end of 2015 😉 I love this author and don’t want to run out of their books… THE BOOKS: Girl Before a Mirror by Liza Palmer | After I Do by Taylor Jenkins Reid | The Fill-In Boyfriend by Kasie West ⇒ THE EXCUSE: You know that feeling when you read a PERFECT book by an author, so part of you wants to immediately read ALL of their other books… […]

Five on Fridays #16

Five on Friday displays the the top five things that have been on my mind this week! It could be book-related, but it may be music, movies, TV, personal life, food, etc. Previous posts can be found here! MEEP. The last one of these was done in June, and the previous one was in March. Clearly I’m not on top of things… which is fine. I resolved to do at least two or three of these for September and October, since I have MANY exciting things happening and they deserve to be talked about more than just a paragraph in my monthly wrap-up. LABOR DAY WEEKEND I had a really fantastic weekend with friends over Labor Day. My birthday (Wednesday the 9th) gave us a good excuse to all get together finally. Two of my college roommates live only 20 minutes away and we still manage to never see each other! Another lives in New Jersey and her boyfriend (also from my college friend group) lives in Rhode Island. We all got together for some bowling and drinks at this fun alley nearby. We had dinner at the lane and spent some time outside on the patio bar playing Kanjam and cornhole. It was a lot of fun and I’m really glad they pressured me to have a birthday gathering. I generally don’t like celebrating my birthday before or after the actual day; I like doing something only on my actual birthday. Overall, it was a great night. We had the two […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #55: Series

Ten Finished Series I NEED to Finish (or Start!) Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. I’m actually not TOO bad at finishing series once I start them. If the books are published and I started the series, there’s a good chance I finished it too. I could only think of five published series that I still need to finish… so, I decided to also show five finished series that I want to read but haven’t yet! Boomerang trilogy by Noelle August Read: Boomerang | To Read: Rebound, Bounce I actually loved the first book, which could be why I’m so nervous to read the next two! I’ve heard some mixed things about both of them. I know they’ll be super quick reads but I just haven’t gotten around to it yet. New Adult has been on the back burner! Private series by Kate Brian Read: Books #1-11 | To Read: Book of Spells, Vanished, Ominous, Vengeance I absolutely loved this series and remember buying and reading each book immediately when it came out. It was really the first series (aside from Harry Potter, obviously) that I tracked when each book was coming out and bought them. Once I finished the 11th book and knew I had to read the prequel, I lost some […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #54: Characters

Top Ten Tuesdays #54: Characters

Ten Characters I Didn’t Click With Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. Ah yes, this topic is an interesting one. There are plenty of books where the main character annoys the crap out of me or just doesn’t work for me, so here are ten of them! Jane from Signs Point to Yes by Sandy Hall – These characters were all kinds of awkward, and not in an endearing way. I couldn’t click with them and cringed at a lot of the dialogue. Tamsen from Young Widows Club by Alexandra Coutts – For such a sad topic, this book didn’t give me really any emotions at all. Tam had no interests or hobbies except for her the ones she shared with her deceased husband, and I just didn’t connect with her. Ally from Behind the Scenes by Dahlia Adler – I loved the second book in this series, but the first one wasn’t as good for me because of Ally. She was a bit overdramatic and I liked all of the side characters more than her! Charlotte from Even in Paradise by Chelsey Philpot – I’m still sad about this book. I was so excited for it and it just didn’t work for me. Charlotte was a follower with very little […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #53: YA 101

Ten Books on the Syllabus for Young Adult Lit 101 Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. I love this week’s topic: the top ten books on my syllabus if I taught a ____ 101 class. I decided to go with the general Young Adult 101 class. The first half of the semester would be the fluffy, feelsy books and the second half would be the heavier topics featured in YA.   Second Chance Summer | Saint Anything | All the Bright Places | I’ll Meet You There | Tease Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda |Emmy & Oliver | Meant to Be | To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before | Anna and the French Kiss
