Top Ten Tuesdays #69: Books from Santa

Top Books I’d Like Santa to Bring Me this Year Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. This is always one of my favorite (and one of the easiest) TTTs for me. I tend to give my dad an Amazon wishlist full of books and he goes by that for 98% of my Christmas shopping. I think last year he gave me every book except two. This year, my list-making for him was a little harder. I chose 10ish books for my TBTB Secret Santa list, as well as the 46 on my wishlist for my Secret Sister. Believe me, I’ll be cutting that list down for next round because it left me with not a lot of options for Christmas! I asked my family for some older releases or books that somehow weren’t on other lists. Here are the top ten books I’d like for Santa to bring me this year! Because I’m in the mood, I’ll also share some of the other items on this year’s wishlist that aren’t books. Lola Carlyle’s 12-Step Romance by Danielle Young-Ullman | I think this book flew under the radar when it first came out, but it seems really cute. I’ve been admiring the cover for probably a year. The Notorious RBG: The […]

Reread Review: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

I remember getting this one in the mail as a preorder… and reading it right away! My parents were reading them after me, so they would always bug me to finish right away. Of course, that was never a problem. I usually raced through these! Ugh, the feels again. This book and the previous totally slayed me the first time around. I mean, honestly. I couldn’t believe that she KILLED THEM BOTH. So cruel. (It was so hard to keep this information to myself the first time I read them too… I kept being like MOM PLEASE FINISH I NEED TO DISCUSS THIS WITH SOMEONE!) I also remembered that this is the one where Harry finally gets an idea of what it will actually take to kill Voldemort. The quest for horcruxes kicks off. Can my answer still just be: Harry Potter + reread = DUH. I mean, really, who do you think I am? I’m pretty surprised I didn’t reread these sooner honestly. Jim Dale’s narrator voice is totally bae. SAD AS USUAL. Ugh. I have to say, it feels weird to finally be at this part of the reread! Only one book left. Unfortunately I remember not loving the 7th book much until about halfway through. That period of time where they’re literally walking around and setting up camp was so boring. ANYWAYS BACK TO THIS BOOK. So there were actually lots of things I forgot about! I didn’t remember that he and Ginny started dating in this book […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #68: Best of 2015

Top Books I Read This Year Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. EEEK THIS IS NOT AN EASY LIST. I’m going to include all of my five-star reads here (obviously) but will also throw in some 4-4.5 if I see fit. Because this is my list and I’ll do it however I want! So there. The topic this week is obviously the top ten books you’ve read this year. You can do it in just 2015 releases, overall, by genre, etc. You know me – I’m going to combine things. I decided to split this into a few categories but there are still waaaaay more than ten books here. Sorry, I don’t feel too bad. I have a non-YA and a YA category of 5 star reads. Then, there are some “honorable mention” books at the bottom, all coming in at 4.5 stars. I couldn’t bear to look at all the 4 star books because this list would be even longer. Without further ado, here are some of my favorites from this year! [I am not linking to my reviews or Goodreads because it would take foooorever to do and I’m lazy. Just use the search bar if you’re curious 😉 ]Pivot Point by Kasie West | Ruin […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #46: Hyped Books

Top Ten Hyped Books I’ve Never Read (Newer Releases I Plan to Read or Won’t Read) Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. I feel like I’ve done some similar posts to this one before! I’ve decided to do a little twist on this one, and make it the top ten hyped new releases (within the last 6 months or so) that I haven’t read yet – and whether or not I think I’ll ever read them! I always add the hyped books to my TBR but never seem to be in the mood to read them. I have a feeling that a lot of them will slip by me and I’ll never read them, but there are some I’m definitely still interested in getting to at some point. Everyone seemed to be super excited for these two before their release! I actually even started to listen to an audiobook of The Wrath and the Dawn, but ended up quitting. I wasn’t really into the story and had a hard time keeping track of the characters. I will probably try this one again at some point, but I’m not sure! I’ll definitely need to read the print copy if I do. I preordered An Ember in the Ashes when there was a […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #46: Best of 2015 So Far

Top Ten Twenty Books I’ve Read So Far in 2015 Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. So we’re halfway through the year, and I’ve read 88 books. To put that in perspective, I read 91 books total in 2014. It’s hard to keep track of what I had for breakfast, let alone all the books I read this year. Most of these books I totally thought I read last year, so there are a bit more than expected… I tried to keep this list as SMALL as possible but its not easy. Here are the top 20 books I’ve read so far in 2015! (Yikes.) Emmy & Oliver by Robin Benway | I think this may be my favorite book so far of the year. It’s hard to say (and I’ll probably say this again a few more times on this list…), but I just got so many feels from this book. It’s so well-rounded, with romance, friendship, and family. I can’t sing its praises enough. The One Thing by Marci Lyn Curtis | This book definitely caught me by surprise. I wasn’t expecting to love it so much, but it was pretty amazing. It doesn’t come out until September but I would mark your calendars. I have a feeling this […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #45: Best of TTT

Ten Favorite TTT Topics Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. (Top Ten Favorite TTT Topics I’ve Done Since Starting Bookmark Lit) The topic for this week reads, “In honor of 5 years of Top Ten Tuesday ( our first Top Ten Tuesday debuted June 21, 2010) — My Ten Favorite Top Ten Topics We’ve Ever Done In The Past 5 Years.” Because this is my 45th TTT since starting my blog, I’m going to give you my favorite TTTs that I’ve done since starting with this meme. I tried to choose some of the more unique topics, or the ones I thought I did really well. I generally love the TBR topics that pop up throughout the year, but they happen so often that I don’t feel like I can list them as favorites. I also avoided the “freebie” weeks because isn’t it kind of cheating if I invented the topic myself? 😉 Regardless, here are my favorite TTTs that I’ve participated in and why! Top 10 Inspirational Book Quotes  Things That Books Have Inspired Me to Do [#36] I had just posted my own list of favorite book quotes, so I changed up the topic a little for this one. I really enjoyed this TTT because it featured […]

Reread Review: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Reread Review: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

I don’t remember if we preordered this one or if I went to the store and bought it. I can’t imagine that I waited to read it for any reason, so I have a feeling it was delivered on release day. I really can’t believe I was 13 when I first read this. I vividly remember sitting around the pool or on our back porch reading this during the summer vacation. UGH OBVIOUSLY I REMEMBER THE ENDING OF THIS. The first very very very sad death in the series. Ugh. Stop reading here if for some reason you haven’t read the series: I was so heartbroken when Sirius died. Harry finally had a family, and maybe even a chance to live with him (because finally the Ministry believed them about Voldemort’s return)… and it got plucked away. You cruel woman, JK Rowling. Otherwise I truthfully didn’t remember that much about this book, except for hating Umbridge and everything she did to the school. My answer stands: because HARRY POTTER! I didn’t think I was mentally ready to reread about Sirius though, so that wasn’t fun. This book is honestly the one that I wasn’t looking forward to rereading as much. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely loooove the creation of the Order and Dumbledore’s Army – but everything else (Umbridge, Sirius, etc.) depresses me. It’s hard to read a book with such a vicious antagonist (sometimes I think I hate her more than Voldemort). It goes without saying that I […]

Reread Review: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Reread Review: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

This is the first book I had to anxiously await reading! Since I finished the first three books before this one’s release, I had to wait and wait for it to come out. My parents were pretty good about letting me preorder the books (especially because they were addicted to them at this point, too!) and I remember being so damn excited for it to arrive. This book is huuuuge in size and I remember walking around everywhere with it in my hands, barely able to fit. I also loved the Triwizard Tournament aspect of this book. It was such a cool idea and kept the action dispersed throughout the book. I knew that this was kind of the “turning point” in the series, where Voldemort is officially back; the books get much darker from here on out. Duh, Harry Potter! I always wanted to reread this series. Beyond that, though, I was almost the most anxious to reread this one out of all of them. I knew that #3 and #4 were close favorites of mine, but I always said Prisoner of Azkaban was my favorite. I wanted to reread this one to see if my reigning favorite would remain, or if this one would take its place! Well, I’m pretty sure this one has officially become my favorite! It feels weird to say that, but I guess my tastes have changed. I just LOVED the whole tournament, the new characters, and the fact that this book is THE book […]

Review: To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before

Review: To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before

Okay honestly I can’t believe I didn’t read this book sooner. It has been my most anticipated read of the year, hands down, and I guess I kept waiting to see if it would go on sale. I decided to just say fuck it and decided to make it a part of Bout of Books. I am so, SO glad I finally read this one (although I kind of wish I waited a little longer so it would be closer to the release of the second book). To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before easily gets five stars from me. I loved every second of it. I LOVED loved LoVeD the characters. Before I get too carried away – this book is about how Lara Jean’s life is turned upside down when her box of letters is released to their intended recipients. In order to get over a boy she likes, she writes a letter to them and hides it in a hatbox under her bed. One day, the letters are mysteriously sent out and she has to deal with the repercussions. One of the boys is her sister’s ex-boyfriend Josh, who is also their longtime friend/neighbor. Another is the popular boy at school, Peter, who was her first kiss. Lucas, a third boy at her school, becomes her close friend after getting her letter and helps her make sense of everything happening to her. Every character in this book was so fun to get to know. Lara Jean was blessed with an amazing […]
