#MakeMeRead tag on Twitter/Instagram
Check out the intro pages (Val’s or Ely’s) and the rules below:
Look at the books you own, either physical, e-book or ones you’ve borrowed from the library and pick out a few you really want to read, or feel like you should read. It’s up to you how many you pick, personally I’d pick a few more than you expect to be able to read in a week. Example: if you think you’ll only read two, pick out five books or if you think you can read seven, pick out ten.
Make a list of these books on your blog, or make a video, or a Goodreads shelf or post a picture on Instagram—whatever is easiest for you. Then get friends, other bloggers/booktubers etc. to vote on which books you HAVE to read.
When the read-a-thon comes along, you read the books in the order of most votes. For example, if one book gets 10 votes—you read that first, then the one that got 7 and so on. If there’s a tie, then it’s your preference. The goal is to read as many as possible.
Wrap-Up
The read-a-thon started on Monday of last week and ends late tonight, so here is my wrap-up! I had a few obligations to read during it, so I didn’t do as well as I hoped in the beginning… but I’m glad I forced myself to read some of these that were otherwise sitting around on the shelf. Not the best reading week for me unfortunately! To be honest, Fangirl slowed me down. So far I’m not 100% sold on it. I don’t like the main character at all so I’m hoping for some major growth in order to keep going. I picked up I’ll Meet You There because I really wanted to move on, so Fangirl has been bumped to an audiobook as well.

2.5 books. Not bad for one week. I love that you also demote so-so books to audio. Why is it easier to get through audiobooks? Did you bump up the reading speed? That always helps when I’m not loving a book.
I’m sad you’re not enjoying Fangirl. I guess I just related a lot to Cath. I’m a twin and college was a big time of breaking away (for my twin, and then for me by default). And I just love the fan fiction portion since I’m a huge Harry Potter fan. Oh well. It’d be pretty boring if we all liked all the same books.
I guess audio is somewhat more passive for me because I can “read” while I get ready in the morning or drive to work. I don’t feel like I’m devoting as much attention to it. For some reason I just had no motivation to sit down and read the physical copy, so I figured I’d try the audio. I’m a big fan of the narrator who does Rainbow Rowell’s books.
I’d relate to Cath a bit more if I had a similar situation to hers, like you did! I am definitely the black sheep on Fangirl. The fanfic is cool – I’m a HP fan as well – but I just cannot connect to her for the life of me.
Great job on your read a thon! I’ll Meet You There was SO GOOD!!! I loved Fangirl too. I hope you enjoyed your books.
Thank you!
I had the same problem with Fangirl. I think the main reason for me was that I couldn’t really relate to the main character, and I didn’t really enjoy the fanfiction bits. I’m glad you got to read Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda. It’s one of my favorite books that I’ve read this year.
I LOVED SIMON. It was amazing. So far Fangirl is yeah…not really for me. I totally agree about the MC and the fanfic. I really just CANNOT relate.
Hey I also read 2.5 books for the readathon! Then I finished the 3rd book a couple days later! Sorry that you didn’t really like Fangirl though! BUT YAY for Simon and I’ll Meet You There!
Thanks for participating in our readathon Lauren!
Yes, I loved those!
