Midyear Reflection, Book Stats, and Challenges
I’ve been doing midyear “wrap-ups” for years now and they’ve taken many forms. This year I’m going to expand a little more than just showing my stats and moving on, since I set a lot of goals and TBRs that I REALLY need to check in on. I’ve been failing miserably at a few and doing okay at others.
Midyear Book Stats
50 / 100 Books Read
Annual Goal Check-In
- Stay on track or ahead of my Goodreads challenge 🤷🏼♀️ I’m currently on target because my goal was to get to 50 books read by the midpoint of the year, which is halfway to my 100-book goal, and I did! It says I’m a book ahead even though I’m kind of not so we’ll see. I’ve spent most of the year on track or behind, not on track or ahead.
- Keep up Instagram stories about TBRs and completed reads ✅ I’ve been amazing at this. Book reviews, monthly TBRs, and monthly wrap-ups are all present on my Instagram stories in highlights.
- Read my 24 in 24 😬 I’ve only read five of these but I do have plans to attack them as noted in my challenge check-in area below. I went ahead and planned which months I’ll read certain books in to ensure I complete the challenge, since I was really hoping to!
- Read bigger books ✅ I was going to give myself a shrug-emoji rating here but then I remembered that I really have made a concerted effort to read big books and didn’t let it derail my progress on my Goodreads goal. I looked at my stats, which you would have seen above as well, and 24% of my books have been over 400 pages, which is pretty sizable! I’ve even read 3 books above 800 pages.
- Utilize some kind of video medium for bookish things 🤷🏼♀️ I have made the occasional Tiktok but nothing major. I still think this is on the back burner until I own a house and can really focus on it.
- Try to balance reading and other hobbies better ✅ I’ve been pretty addicted to podcasts and YouTube beyond just reading and listening to audiobooks, so generally speaking this is a win for me.
- Read less than 70% contemporary and mystery/thrillers ✅ Currently I’m at 60% for mystery and contemporary, so off to a good start! I feel like I’m really getting into the mood for both of these because it’s summer though, so we’ll see how the fantasy books of the fall balance it out by EOY!
- Intentionally read more diverse books instead of accidentally 🤷🏼♀️ Another one where I know I could be better with. I get too in the groove of reading books by my favorite authors or the same ones and it’s just not giving as much diversity as I’d like.
- Focus on getting my Netgalley ratio above 80% 🤷🏼♀️ I was doing well on this initially and wasn’t requesting a lot of books but then ended up with like 10 approvals one month?? So bad! I did Netgalley March and definitely, absolutely need Netgalley November.
Challenge Check-In
I did a whole post discussing my challenges and planning for some of them so here’s an overview:
Popsugar – 26%
52 Book Club – 46%
Book Cover Bingo – 72%
24 in 24 – 21%
I feel confident I can finish the 24 in 24 challenge, and likely the book cover bingo challenge as well. I have no intentions of finishing the Popsugar or 52 Book Club challenges (it’s never my goal to read all 50-52 books) but do know I can check off more of them as the year continues.
Goals for Q3-Q4
Out of all the goals above, there are a few major ones I’d like to hone in on for the second half of the year.
