Ranking Books by Favorite Authors | Taylor Jenkins Reid

I thought this was going to be a more common series on my blog but I basically wrote one post and never tried it again! The idea came from the late Grace at Rebel Mommy Book Blog. I still miss her positivity in the book community and hope I can keep doing this post justice! Previous installments include Sandhya Menon, Rachel Lynn Solomon, Christina Lauren, and Jennifer Lynn Barnes. Today I’ll be featuring…

Taylor Jenkins Reid

I was pretty shocked when I realized I never featured TJR for this one (along with Emily Henry but we’ll get there) when writing my review for her newest release. I still have ONE super old TJR book to read that I keep hoarding for a rainy day… but otherwise, I’ve read all of the things. You’ll see that I generally have a bias for her earlier work and romance-heavy novels compared to the more historical fiction-leaning books she’s written more recently… still most books in the 4.5 – 5 star range! 🙂

5 Stars

Maybe in Another Life // This one is my all-time favorite for a lot of reasons. I’m a sucker for a “what if” kind of Sliding Doors, parallel life story. TJR knocked it out of the park within the specific subgenre or trope. It has always stuck with me and I’d be shocked if this ever made it out of the top spot…

After I Do // Another oldie-but-goodie as a top favorite. I just loved the concept of this book and how she wrote it. Lots of emotions and really incredible quotes! Along with the previous book on my list, I need to reread this at some point.

Atmosphere // I was pleasantly surprised by her newest book and that’s what prompted me to finally write this post! I loved the “NASA in the 80s” setting when women were first allowed into the program. There’s an excellent romance and a super emotional, sob-worthy ending.

4.5 Stars

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo  // I always recall this as being a five-star read for me but apparently just a little below that in my next tier of favorites! This book is unlike anything I’d read before – I really loved the premise and the little twists throughout. I remember putting out a call for similar book recs immediately after finishing it, but nothing got me quite like the OG!

One True Loves // Another one of her earlier books with a super unique premise that I loved. The idea that you could finally move on from your spouse likely dying just to move on to someone else, then have the original spouse not actually be dead and gone?! Good lord.

Carrie Soto is Back // Oh we love an unlikeable and ruthless female character who is far more complex than those adjectives give her credit for! This one was a big win for me as well. I thought the story was fascinating and I really don’t care about tennis at all.

Malibu Rising // Candidly I don’t remember too much about this one aside from (a) we hate Mick Riva as always and (b) this was a bit more of a family story with some complex dynamics that I really enjoyed.

Evidence of the Affair // I read this short story on my laptop one day during work (whoops) and I think read it all in one sitting. Just a really enthralling quick read in the form of letters being written back and forth.

4 Stars

Daisy Jones and the Six // Call me crazy! This book is just not as powerful and deep as her others. Frankly a lot of it was predictable… yet still a super enjoyable read from a formatting perspective. I actually reread it via audio (the first version I read was an ARC) and it made a big difference, but not enough to change my rating. I still need to watch the show, which is the reason I reread in the first place!
