I’ve been utterly terrible about watching TV shows or keeping up with new release movies that I’m excited about. I track everything in the TV Time app but unfortunately if you don’t mark the first episode as “watched” when it comes out right away, the show will move out of the immediate to-watch list… and then I forget it exists. I wanted to go through my app and see what I’ve been missing out on and should prioritize.
Widow’s Bay
This is the top show on my list probably. Everyone keeps talking about it and I love that is kind of a funny horror/mystery show set in New England. I’m not sure how horror-ish it will get, since that’s not usually my jam, but I’m intrigued for sure.
The Boroughs
This is another one that’s kind of intriguing but also don’t know what to expect. I guess a “supernatural force” or something is plaguing this retirement community and they have to fight back in some way.
Every Year After
Like everyone and their mother, I read (and loved) EVERY SUMMER AFTER. I haven’t seen great things from readers about the adaptation and how close it is to the book, but I’m still going to give it a shot. My goal was to finish the Off-Campus show before this one debuted but unfortunately I haven’t finished that so this is still on my list… ugh.
Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair
My family watched the original show religiously and Chris loves it too, so the fact that we didn’t immediately get to this when it came out in April is kind of crazy. I truly think I forgot about it lol. The reviews/ratings are pretty good so I’m hopeful we can get to this after we finish Spider-Noir.
High Potential
We’re huge Sunny fans and have loved Kaitlin Olson’s side projects like The Mick. I’m excited this one has been renewed and getting a lot of praise. Chris isn’t really a crime/mystery show kind of guy but I think her being the lead would help him get on board.
Long Bright River
Funny story: I read and loooooved THE GOD OF THE WOODS and then my friend randomly handed me (along with a recommendation) LONG BRIGHT RIVER. I started reading it on a whim and didn’t even realize that it was by Liz Moore too! I hadn’t read the book yet when the show came out in 2025 but I definitely plan to get to it at some point this year.
Imperfect Women
This has a fun cast but the reviews aren’t great. I think it’s a nice messy show that I would enjoy. The description (“After a murder shatters the lives of three friends, their decades-long bond is tested when an investigation reveals shocking truths.”) is right up my alley.
The ‘Burbs
Okay this one seems really fun – one of my friends described it as if a Hallmark movie-style small town got creepy and had mysteries to solve. I’m definitely interested in that, since I also usually like the Hallmark Mysteries lol. Plus Keke Palmer is great.
All Her Fault
The premise of this reminds me of a classic domestic thriller kind of book (was this based on a book??) and I’m curious to watch it. Candidly it’s lower on the list compared to some others on here but I love a good mystery TV show, so we’ll see.
Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue
This premise is sooo for me: “Nine strangers find themselves lost in a remote Mexican jungle after their small plane crashes; the plot thickens as members are murdered one by one and the remaining survivors must solve the mystery.”
The Hunting Wives
I feel like I missed the boat on this one from a hype perspective but I just need to read it. I know there will be a lot of things I’ll like about it. One of my friends really liked it but said its unhinged… we’ll see!
The Better Sister
I forgot this one is based on a book – usually I try to read it beforehand because if the premise of the show sounds good, I know I’ll enjoy trying out the book. I’m not sure if/when I’ll get to either one but it’s worth calling out as an intriguing limited series about sisters.
The Four Seasons
I actually had no idea what the premise of this show was but the cast and general positive reception had me ready to add it to my list. Apparently it follows a group of three couples / six friends as they go on four seasonal vacations in a year, where they learn one of the couples is breaking up.
Grosse Pointe Garden Society
I’m sure this is not actually like Desperate Housewives but it’s kind of giving me that vibe! I haven’t seen anyone talk about it honestly but it seems like a great time. It follows four members of a garden club in a wealthy town as they get entangled in a murder.
The Residence
As I said, Chris doesn’t usually get into crime shows or mysteries but he CAN get on board with the funnier/quirky ones sometimes. We always watch the Knives Out movies and really enjoyed The Afterparty on AppleTV+. This show reminds me of those so definitely want to get to it, plus we love Randall Park!
Running Point
We’re big WNBA/NCAAW basketball fans so a show following the female president of a women’s basketball team is very much in our wheelhouse. This is one I’m really surprised we haven’t watched yet!
A Man on the Inside
Big fan of Ted Dansen and seeing him in a quirky mystery show, much like some of the other ones on here. A few other members of the cast are excellent as well. Should be a great one!
Murder in a Small Town
My dad read the book and was planning to watch the show for this one. I was curious enough to add it to my watchlist but I’m not sure if I will read the book too? It’s not really my kind of book in some ways (written by a man, about a police chief) but it definitely is in others (small town, cozy mystery vibe).
Presumed Innocent
My book club was talking about this the other day and I remembered I was thinking of watching it at some point. I generally like Jake Gyllenhaal and the premise sounds interesting enough.
Under the Bridge
I feel like this flew under the radar a bit but I saw an ad for it on Hulu back when it first came out. It follows teenagers accused of a murder and some big reveals. The summary includes the word “biography” which is weird but I don’t think this is based on a true story?
Apples Never Fall
This doesn’t have great reviews and I still haven’t read the book, but I love Liane Moriarty’s books. I like that they continue to be turned into shows, even if they may not be super high quality lol. See below…
Nine Perfect Strangers
This is one of Moriarty’s books that I wasn’t a huge fan of but I was definitely intrigued enough to watch the show… someday. The setting for it and cast look great, but again, reviews are not great.
Death and Other Details
I love a little locked room murder mystery, and this one maybe falls in line with some of the other quirky detective-led ones? I’m not entirely sure because I don’t remember the preview for it but I know it was on my list based on that general description.
True Detective
I was a hugeeeee fan of Mare of Easttown and have scoured the internet for similar show recommendations. Have I actually watched any of them? Of course not. I’m happy there will be a second season sometime in the next couple of years but in the meantime – I think I may give some True Detective a try?
I Will Find You
There are so many Harlan Coben shows on Netflix that sound interesting but I’ve only actually watched one of them. The newest one came out last week and looks pretty good. It follows a father imprisoned for his son’s murder who escapes when he learns that his son might be alive.
Ransom Canyon
I’m not a western girl or someone who likes to watch shows set in Texas, but I really enjoy Minka Kelly. This feels like some of the other soapy shows on Netflix that I started but haven’t finished (Sweet Magnolias and Virgin River).
The Witness
I’m hit or miss with the shows that were inspired by true stories (usually I’d just watch a true crime documentary instead) but this one seems interesting, especially because I don’t know much about the case.
