101 Things in 1001 Days

101 Things in 1001 Days

The Day Zero Project made it on my radar a few years ago when I started following Stephanie’s blog, Not Entirely Perfect. This project is where you make a list of 101 goals to complete in 1001 days, which is just under 3 years (2¾ years). It’s fun to plan out the goals you think you may have over that time frame because you can mix in easy one with more difficult long-term ones. So, I did make a list at the time and did… somewhat okay… with a lot of the goals. I ended up quitting because the goals weren’t related to my life anymore, with the move and other priorities shifting. When Stephanie posted how to make a 101 in 1001 list, I decided it was time to do it again. I think I’m ready to do it again now that my life is going to be somewhat settled in the near future lol. I started the list on December 1, 2018 so it will end on August 28, 2020. I decided to share my list here with you. Here’s my list on the website if you want to follow me or check in on my progress! Blog Make a decision for or against blog rebrand (and execute) | You know I’ve been considering this for a while. I want to make a choice and either go for it or officially decide to keep Bookmark Lit as is. Post challenge updates each calendar year during it | I want to include progress updates throughout […]

Instagram Best 9 from 2018

Instagram Best 9 from 2018

I saw this post on The Nesting Nomad and thought it would be a fun addition to the blog! I know we’re over a month into the year already (I say “already” but honestly January felt about a million years long) and this is a bit delayed, but why not keep the recap going? I’m going to share my top 9 and tell some stories about each picture (which most likely includes a book). I’m also going to show off my best 9 from my personal Instagram, even though I barely even posted that many pictures last year. Bookstagram Row 1, L-R: I sat outside on an uncharacteristically warm day in Connecticut and completely binged Confessions of a High School Disaster for a blog tour. The book reminded me of myself back in ninth grade (not all of it – some parts she was a bit questionable). I’m also wearing some of my favorite Lularoe leggings with elephants! You’ll see pretty quickly how much I love reading outside. This was during a lunch break at work when I was finishing up Roar. I didn’t love the book, but this skirt (also Lularoe) is one of my faaaavorites). I stopped for a smoothie during lunch as well, clearly. Before we moved to Portland, we spent around 2 weeks living at Chris’s parents’ house after our lease ended. I love their outdoor area, with the pool and comfy seating everywhere. I spent a good amount of time hanging out back there (this […]

Three Things (2)

Three Things (2)

I wrote my first Three Things post a while back and was inspired to do a follow-up when I saw a version on Grace’s blog. I stole some of the questions and included some of the previous ones (about recently read/watched/etc. because obviously those are different from last time). I originally got the first post idea from a couple of places (this post on a new blog I started following and she grabbed it from someone else) and I ended up adding a few more of my own as well to make it a longer. Feel free to join in but share the credit around 🙂 Three wardrobe staples | Black shirt, leggings, dresses You’ll most likely find me in some kind of flowy black short sleeve shirt, with a sweater of some kind over it, leggings, and boots. It’s definitely my go-to, casual outfit when we’re running errands or out and about on the weekends. I just ordered another short sleeve black shirt because I wear them so often. I have a lot of patterned leggings, so it’s easiest to have plain tops. I also loooove dresses all year – with leggings and boots in the winter or solo in the summer. It’s the easiest way to look put together even if you’re not. Three foods I hate and refuse to eat | Ketchup, mushrooms, peas Not going to lie, I’m one of the least picky eaters out there. There are some foods I really dislike and won’t eat, but most foods […]

The Cruel Prince Celebration and Giveaway

The Cruel Prince Celebration and Giveaway

I am absurdly excited to be partnering with NOVL in today’s celebration for THE CRUEL PRINCE. They were kind enough to send me a gorgeous finished copy too. I absolutely adored this book – check out my full review here to see why! Holly Black is the queen of fae stories and this was no exception. I can’t believe I have to wait a year for the next book. In the meantime, I’ll keep getting excited about THE CRUEL PRINCE and planning my inevitable reread 😉 Today I’ll be sharing faerie fruit recipes and my Cover Colors feature. About the Book & Author The Cruel Prince (The Folk of the Air #1) by Holly Black  Young Adult Fantasy – In stores January 2, 2018 By #1 New York Times bestselling author Holly Black, the first book in a stunning new series about a mortal girl who finds herself caught in a web of royal faerie intrigue. Of course I want to be like them. They’re beautiful as blades forged in some divine fire. They will live forever. And Cardan is even more beautiful than the rest. I hate him more than all the others. I hate him so much that sometimes when I look at him, I can hardly breathe. Jude was seven years old when her parents were murdered and she and her two sisters were stolen away to live in the treacherous High Court of Faerie. Ten years later, Jude wants nothing more than to belong there, despite her mortality. But many of the […]

2018 Planner Life

2018 Planner Life

One of the things I’ve struggled with, especially since starting the blog but definitely BEFORE I had one too, is finding and successfully using a planner for an entire year. I’ve tried soooo many brands, methods, and styles, but essentially none of them stick. I’ve tried separating my three lives (blog, work, and personal) into separate ones, as well as combining them all together. Seriously… nothing works. Here’s list of posts about planners of yesteryear, in case you think any of my misery may help you. Planner-Related Struggle Bus My Planners/Organizational Series Lauren Lately ft. Do It All Planner Five on Fridays ft. Day Designer Five on Fridays ft. Happy Planner and Reading Notebook Book Bag with my Erin Condren and Foxy Dori Planners Reading Notebooks/Foxy Dori After all this trial and error, I’m here yet again to share my newest planner acquisitions that started in December of last year. So far so good and my fingers are crossed! Personal, blog, and work: Plum Paper Planner Details: Base model is $32, plus you can include extra page add-ons for around $2+ (this is for the 7×9 size) Attraction: I wanted to make sure the cover really suited me and they had plenty of options! They also had a million ways to customize it through choosing the layout and adding sooo many extra pages/sections to the planner. I like to-do lists and bill trackers, plus having the morning/afternoon/night layout. They’re incredibly similar to the Erin Condren planners and cost about $20 less. Cute […]

If We Were Having Coffee…

If We Were Having Coffee…

I LOVE reading personal posts from other bloggers and seeing Jamie’s “If We Were Having Coffee” feature take off is so fun. Laura and Lindsey also have some great spin-offs of this feature too. I was very tempted to also make mine margarita-related (like Lindsey) but coffee is so ingrained in my daily life that it just makes sense to keep it. If you’re not familiar, it basically involves a fake little conversation about what’s been happening in our lives lately. Read on to see what’s been happening lately and feel free to chat back in the comments! If we were having coffee… I’d tell you that I’m currently participating in Bout of Books and hope to make some good progress this week! I binge-read multiple books over the weekend and will start off the readathon with A TAXONOMY OF LOVE today. I’m off to a great start this year (especially because I started and finished two books yesterday!). What are you currently reading and/or listening to? If we were having coffee… I’d say that I’ve felt super energized by reading again now that my 2017 ban of reading between Christmas and NYE is over. I reached my goal of 150 books on the 26th and didn’t want to finish the year on an random number (I would have had to push to 155 books if I was going to keep reading), so I just stopped for the rest of the year. It felt weird to not read; I ended up binge-watching some […]

Favorite Things of 2017

Favorite Things of 2017

Everyone is doing some amazing 2017 wrap-ups and I decided that I couldn’t resist. I finally saw Andi’s new Favorite Things feature this week and it was the last straw to inspire this post. I don’t plan on making it monthly like her, because lord knows I already have two monthly wrap-ups that kind of already share this, but I thought it would be fun to round out a “best of 2017” list for me. I won’t be including actual books, but I will definitely be featuring book-related things. I took a scroll back through my Lauren Lately posts to see what was a fave each month. Lush Dark Angels Cleanser | I started to get a little bored of my face cleanser, so I went over to Lush to see what might work better. I really enjoy this charcoal cleanser for my oily skin! I’ve noticed that it takes longer for my face to get oily each day, which is usually my #1 concern. The only issue is that it’s hard to completely wash off in the shower (or in general) because it’s black. However… Spongeables Charcoal Face Sponge | …this sponge does the trick! I like that it has a coarse side and a soft/smooth side. I rub the coarse side to exfoliate a little bit and make sure the cleanser is all gone, then I use the smooth side to finish it off. I think this pairs well with the cleanser overall in making my skin feel really smooth. […]

2017 End of Year and Statistics Surveys

2017 End of Year and Statistics Surveys

Happy end of the year! How is it possible?! Honestly this was one of the craziest, busiest, weirdest, and best years of my life. As you know from years past, I hate filling these out unless my year is completely done. I’ve managed to finish my reading a bit early and then pause until the New Year. I loved filling out Jamie’s survey in 2014, 2015, and 2016. This is the 7th time she’s hosted this survey and it’s so fun to see what everyone chooses for the categories. Last year, I didn’t allow myself any duplicates. I’m going to try to keep them to a minimum for this survey, but it feels impossible. I’ll need to have a few. To learn more about it and see a blank set of questions, check here! It was so fun to reread my answers for last year, since I copied that survey here to clean out and fill out. Number of Books You Read: 150 Number of Re-Reads: 16 | Number of DNFs: 7 Genre You Read The Most From: Contemporary 1. Best Book You Read In 2017? Totally cheating and adding multiple categories! (Not including rereads.) See a full list of my “best reads” of the year (5 stars and 4.5 stars) here if you’re curious.       Best of the best: The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas Best contemporary: The Names They Gave Us by Emery Lord Best non-contemporary: The Cruel Prince by Holly Black Best adult fiction: The Dirty Book Club by Lisi Harrison Best 2017 debut […]

Tis the Season! | Holiday Plans & TBR 2017

Tis the Season! | Holiday Plans & TBR 2017

As usual, I’m overly excited to bring you my reading plan for the holidays! I also have a bunch of other fun things to include, because maybe you know by now how much I love the Christmas season. I wanted to post this early enough to share the Book Buddies book we’re reading for December (because I’m starting it soon) and the other movies or shows I plan to binge ASAP. I started listening to Christmas music the day after Halloween, so I usually don’t care about “after Thanksgiving I can be excited for Christmas” stuff…. but I thought this would be a good time to share. At the bottom of the post, you’ll find ALL of the recent years’ holiday posts, which includes book reviews, discussions, holiday guest posts, Christmassy tags, and lists of my favorite books or tropes. I haven’t done a recap yet in these “intro” posts so if you’re looking for immediate recommendations to add to your TBR this year, check those posts out! I will be using the same review format as last year, including the cheer-o-meter and holiday graphics to show which are mentioned in the book! I’m a big fan of these graphics and review information, so hopefully no one is sick of seeing them quite yet 😉 As you can see, I have a decent amount of options here! Of course there could be some more that pop up and my TBRs are never set in stone. I wanted to include a few […]

Currently [11/21/17]

I’ve done a few Currently posts on the blog before but never really loved how they came out or the categories I chose. We’ll see how I do these going forward, but I’m drawing from Jamie’s recent Currently list of topics right now (with a few changes/additions)! Thanks girl ?  Also yes I realize this is posted on 11/22 but the answers to the questions are from 11/21. Currently reading: Haunting the Deep by Adriana Mather and Perfect Scoundrels by Ally Carter. I haven’t been doing a great job of reading lately for various reasons but I’ll be back ahead on my GR goal once I finally finish these two! Currently listening to on audiobook: I’m in the process of finishing The Becoming of Noah Shaw by Michelle Hodkin for book club. I probably won’t start up another one until we’re home again for Christmastime and I have a commute again. I just don’t make the time to listen as much anymore! Currently listening to: Podcasts take up the majority of my listening time, in the shower or walking around the grocery store. I’m also definitely in the middle of my Christmas music binge! Currently eating: Nothing at the moment but we’re having an office lunch sometime soon. Currently in the process of figuring out where we want to order from. Currently drinking: Odwalla Caramel Apple Cider smoothie thing. I grabbed a couple of these at the store yesterday for workday snacks and this one is interesting. I can definitely taste the […]
