Top Ten Tuesdays #228: Audio

Audio Freebie: Favorites Top Ten Tuesdays were started by The Broke and the Bookish and are now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. The topic for this week is an audio-related freebie. I probably spend more of my week listening to podcasts than I do listening to audiobooks, but I’ve done a good job balancing them lately. The first few days of the week will usually involve podcast episodes (since I have some scheduled to come out each weekend and in the early part of the work week) and the rest of the week will be more audiobook-focused. I thought I would highlight some very broad categories of audio-related favorites, including narrators, services, and books themselves for this freebie topic! Favorite Narrator: Julia Whalen She will easily be my favorite narrator, forever. I’ve listened to her narrate some TJR books (excellent) and a few others. She just has the best voice and I can’t get enough of it. I think you’ll see her on a lot of people’s lists this week because she seriously knows what she’s doing. Listened to already: Here are some of the books I’ve already listened to and enjoyed her narration for… even if the book wasn’t perfect lol. (Note: I have listened to all three books in the Charlotte Holmes series but […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #227: Spring TBR

Top Spring Releases on my TBR (that I don’t already have review copies of) Top Ten Tuesdays were started by The Broke and the Bookish and are now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. The topic for this week is your spring TBR but I already did a spring bingo TBR (and do monthly TBRs), so I thought I would expand specifically into books releasing in the spring that are on my to-read list! These are March, April, and May releases. I purposely did not put any advanced copies I have on here… even if I’m super excited for them. March A Question of Holmes by Cavallaro | The Fairest Kind of Love by Cestari Crashing the A-List by Heacock | Killing November by Mather (1) I’ve been casually enjoying the Charlotte Holmes series and am mildly excited for the next book. I don’t know why, but I don’t LOVE this series… yet I keep feeling the need to read each new installment? I think it’s because the audiobooks are easy listening. Note: I realized I have yet to read the LAST book in the series like an idiot. (2) There’s another sequel in the Windy City Magic series, which I think is adorable. It’s not perfect but it’s cute, young, and fluffy paranormal-ish YA. Also note: […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #226: Sequels

Top Ten Tuesdays #226: Sequels

Standalone Books That Need a Sequel (or Full Series or Companion Novels) Top Ten Tuesdays were started by The Broke and the Bookish and are now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. I’m always the kind of person who asks for MORE books in certain worlds (even contemporary worlds). I love sequels. I love companions where previous side characters become main characters. (Hello, Hundred Oaks!) I love reading a million books set in the same universe even if they’re not fully connected to each other in an actual sequel. (The Grishaverse is obviously the best example of this!) I didn’t want to make this about books that were supposed to get a sequel but it didn’t end up happening… but EFF IT, some will be that scenario. I also wrote a TTT a long time ago about characters I’d like to check in with, so you better believe I’d love some sequels for those books! (The best part of reading that post from 2015 is seeing that I DID get a sequel to 99 Days!)    The Heiresses by Shepard | Sequel/full series | I know this book was supposed to be a series-starter, but it never got picked up for some reason. There were recent rumors of a TV show in development but those may […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #225: Characters to Switch With

Characters I’d Like to Switch Places With Top Ten Tuesdays were started by The Broke and the Bookish and are now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. This is a different one! I like that. I think I usually focus on characters I’d want to be friends with, or book settings I’d love to be transported to… but actually BEING a character? Love that! I’m going to TRY to think of other reasons sometimes instead of just picking all of the girls with cute book boyfriends 😉 I didn’t think of how hard this would be though… there are so many MCs going through undesirable things, which makes their stories interesting! I should do a follow-up on MCs I WOULDN’T want to switch places with!

Top Ten Tuesdays #224: Places to Visit

Top Ten Tuesdays #224: Places to Visit

Places Mentioned in Books I’d Like to Visit Top Ten Tuesdays were started by The Broke and the Bookish and are now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. I always talk about the book settings I love or places I’d want to move, but this is a little more specific? I love a good, cozy, small town. ALWAYS. I also love books in boarding schools or at resorts or in beach towns. Vivid settings are some of my favorite things to talk about. The vast majority of these are RECENT books I’ve read because I literally went through my “read” list on Goodreads, in order. My grandfather was from Punxsutawney, PA… and VERY proud of that fact. I’ve always wanted to visit there for that reason (I don’t care much about the groundhog but obviously it’d be cool to see). Pretty in Punxsutawney being set there definitely got my wheels turning on making a visit happen someday for him. It sounds like there isn’t a hell of a lot to do but it would be worth it for me and my family. (My mom went a bit as a kid!) As I said in my little intro, I’m a huge fan of small town stories. They remind me of my hometown and high school years. Hindsight definitely […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #223: Under 2,000 Ratings

Top Ten Tuesdays #223: Under 2,000 Ratings

Books I Loved with Under 2K Ratings on Goodreads (Actually, these ended up around 500 ratings or less!) Top Ten Tuesdays were started by The Broke and the Bookish and are now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. I feel like most of my books with a low number of ratings are because the books aren’t out yet, but I was able to peel through some of those low-rated (numbers-wise, not rating-wise) books on GR and highlight some hidden gems! I also am skipping over novellas and sequels since those tend to not have a lot of ratings. In general, I’m a huge fan of pushing books that are deserving of praise but otherwise don’t get enough attention. Crazy Little Thing Called Love by Charlotte Butterfield | “This book somewhat reminded me of a Sophie Kinsella novel, but maybe a little tamer. (Maybe it’s because it’s an English book set in London too…) I did laugh out loud a few times and immediately added her other book to my TBR!” Pretty Fierce by Kieran Scott | “The first step in this story? Suspend your disbelief. You really have to just let yourself enjoy it and not think about how ridiculously crazy the idea of this story is. There are so many wild twists that happen later on […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #222: Shippy Couples

Recent Favorite Couples in Books Top Ten Tuesdays were started by The Broke and the Bookish and are now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. I have talked about some of my all-time favorite book couples but so many of them are outdated at this point! I think it’d be fun right now to take you through some of my more RECENT favorite couples in books, or the books that I most recently added to my “ship so hard” shelf on Goodreads. Let me know what you think of these, if you’ve read any!

Top Ten Tuesdays #221: On the Fence

Top Ten Tuesdays #221: On the Fence

Upcoming Releases I’m On the Fence About Top Ten Tuesdays were started by The Broke and the Bookish and are now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. I have an unreleased TBR shelf, general to-read shelf, and consideration shelf on Goodreads. I really don’t put unreleased books on the consideration shelf but maybe I should start doing that… because this was tough to pull out a little bit!    The Art of Losing being on here will definitely garner some gasps from friends! I know many people who personally know/love Lizzy Mason from her publishing work, but this book sounds just a little too heavy for me? I have been straying away from non-fluffy contemporaries lately for some reason because I just need the romance and no drama or sadness haha. The Cliff House may be a surprise to some people, who know I am a huge fangirl for the Haven Point series by RaeAnne Thayne. I’m on the fence because its a standalone novel and my favorite thing about her writing is the cozy small towns, explored through multiple books. The synopsis sounds halfway up my alley, so that doesn’t exactly help its case. We Rule the Night is one of a few fantasy books I expect to be on this list because I just never read them […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #220: New to the TBR

Top Ten Tuesdays #220: New to the TBR

Most Recent Additions to My TBRs Top Ten Tuesdays were started by The Broke and the Bookish and are now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. I decided to take this one two ways. I don’t acquire a lot of books in general so I thought I would share books added to my physical or digital (owned) TBR aaaand those I added to my Goodreads lists (both under to-read and TBR-unreleased for upcoming books). It’ll be more than ten because I’m doing five books for each of these five categories! [Heads up that, as usual, I will be drafting this post before its TTT due date, so it will be a tiny bit outdated by the time it posts!] Digital Acquisitions – For Review I received an egalley of THAT’S NOT WHAT I HEARD to participate in the blog tour (yesterday!) but the others were simple Netgalley requests. I’ve heard good things about AU PAIR, COMICS has been on my TBR for a while and I’ve been pumped for it, and PASSION ON PARK and FLATSHARE have some great synopses. I’m requesting more and more adult rom-com fiction and I love it! Digital Acquisitions – Purchased Most of these were actually bought last year during the holiday season, especially MISS KANE (didn’t read yet) and SEASON […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #219: Meant to Read

Top Ten Tuesdays #219: Meant to Read

Books I Meant to Read In 2018 but Didn’t Get To Top Ten Tuesdays were started by The Broke and the Bookish and are now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. I feel like my whole TBR could be put here. I am so bad about reading books I set out to read! I’m breaking this into a few shameful categories because I’m the worst. 2018 Review Copies Soooo I went a little egalley-heavy in 2018. I hope to remedy this and stay on top of things but my mood reading is still very THERE for review copies. I request something I genuinely want to read (it was even on my TBR before seeing it on Netgalley!) and then I’m just straight-up not in the mood for it by the due date. I might read it later when I want to, but sometimes that doesn’t happen either. Here are eight review copies where this happened.     Valley Girls by Lemon | I kind of liked the first book I read by this author, but not fully – so I’m really not sure why I requested another book by her. Don’t get me wrong, my opinion could always change, but I just don’t think this book was logical for me to REQUEST. All That I Can Fix […]
