Authors I Keep Adding to my TBR that I STILL Haven’t Read (Part 2)

In case you couldn’t tell from last week’s post staying “part one” in the top, I clearly have a LOT of authors to include on this shameful list of mine. Here’s the recap and this week’s segment of the alphabet… I can’t be the only one who does this, right?! There are so many authors out there that keep writing books that sound AMAZING, so I add them to my TBR… and then never actually read those books. There are some authors on this list where their DEBUT was right up my alley, I was so pumped, and then never got to it… and now they have five books out and I keep adding them to my overflowing TBR list and still haven’t even read their first story. Here are some of those books and authors… even just to remind myself they exist and I NEED TO READ THEM. Leah Konen Do you have any books on your list where you don’t even realize who the author is, or make connections between their books? That definitely just happened here. I was scrolling through my TBR, looking for good books and authors to include, when I saw all these books in a row. I totally didn’t even connect that they were by the same author. All of them sound SO GOOD; hop to it, Lauren!     Emily Henry This one is a little ridiculous, given how freakin excited I was for her debut. I lost some steam for a while but still hope […]

June TBR

June TBR

My monthly TBR feature here shows my progress based on last month’s TBR, my plans for this month, and anything else I might be thinking about from a reading perspective. Sometimes I feature a little poll at the bottom so you guys can help me figure out a certain title I should read from a group of books. May Progress     I managed to read a few egalleys and my book club selection, but that’s about it. I didn’t manage to finish any books from my physical TBR but I’ve been slowly slogging through one of them without much success. I tried to prioritize some of the deadlines I had (and expiring PDF egalleys), so that was okay. On Deck for June Library Books Puddin by Murphy | I Have Lost My Way by Forman Sam & Isla’s Last Hurrah by Levithan/Cohn I have these final three library books from the Portland library that need to be read and/or returned before June 30th. I definitely think I’ll get to them… at least two out of three, most likely. I’ve been really excited about them so I hope that motivates me. I’m the worst. Blog Tours   The Summer List by Doan | Your Destination is on the Left by Spieller I’m actually reading THE SUMMER LIST as we speak but had to put it on hold for my book club read. I have these two blog tours in June, on the 18th and 22nd respectively. One is YA and the […]

Authors I Keep Adding to my TBR that I STILL Haven’t Read (Part 1)

I can’t be the only one who does this, right?! Stephanie Kate Strohm This was the author that inspired this list because GOD her books sound soo wonderful and adorable, yet I have yet to read one. She just keeps announcing more and more excellent books and here I am, still waiting to read PRINCE IN DISGUISE sometime in this century.      Jen Wilde Wilde writes a good amount of books involving music and movies, which sometimes work for me… but not all the time. I think that’s why I’ve hesitated on her works? The synopses sound so great overall though, so I keep adding them and adding them!    Kara Thomas I don’t read a lot of darker books and I think Thomas’s new releases always scare me a little bit. I’m never fully turned off because clearly I add them to my TBR and continue to find them intriguing, but I […]

Groundhog Day Fiction

Groundhog Day Fiction

One of my biggest read-bait keywords/phrases in a book synopsis is the Groundhog Day scenario – the Bill Murray movie where he relives the same day over and over again, trying to figure out how to escape. I love books involving time loops and alternate universes, and I definitely view this as a subsection of that “genre.” Countless YA books and other fictional stories have centered around this plotline as a “retelling” of sorts, and I’m here today to chat about them! Tried & True Favorite The book that started it all for me is obviously Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver. A mean girl dies in a car accident but keeps waking up the next morning to relive the day over again. She tries to right her wrongs and figure out what it will take to break out of this loop, so she can move on to the afterlife in peace. I loved every single element of this book and Lauren Oliver’s writing. It remains a favorite even after rereading it last year and ‘m so glad it held up for me. I loved seeing how she lived each day a little differently, taking advantage of this “extra time” by doing things she normally wouldn’t do. She got all sorts of things out of her system, that’s for sure! It definitely was reminiscent of the movie version because it involves a “bad person” learning from their mistakes and hopefully making amends for things they’ve done wrong. The fact that […]

May TBR

My monthly TBR feature here shows my progress based on last month’s TBR, my plans for this month, and anything else I might be thinking about from a reading perspective. Sometimes I feature a little poll at the bottom so you guys can help me figure out a certain title I should read from a group of books. April Progress    April was a shitty reading month overall but I managed to get some books off my TBR. I was struggling to find the desire to read for most of the month, and got super wrapped up in all things wrestling or beauty YouTube. Oh well. It’s nice to find time for other hobbies but as usual, I need BALANCE dude. On Deck for May Books with Due Dates   May 10th | Blog Tour | Love & Luck by Welch May 31st | Book Club | Ghostly Echoes by Ritter I recently joined the blog tour for LOVE & LUCK. I enjoyed Welch’s writing style when I tried to read LOVE & GELATO but didn’t like the main character, so I’m excited to give another one of her books a try! I also have book club’s May pick (which we are squeaking in literally in the last day of May) to continue our read of the JACKABY series. May Egalleys      A Date with Darcy by Schmidt | August and Everything After by Doktorski Valley Girls by Lemon | From Twinkle, With Love by Menon | Furyborn by Legrand I […]

Books Coming This Summer That I NEED

Books Coming This Summer That I NEED

I try to be good about requesting books on NG (and now EW a bit more) that I’m genuinely excited about, instead of being click-happy and selecting stories in the moment. I started to realize when I went on a requesting binge last week that I have sooo many summer releases I’m looking forward to! I’m going to follow the technical definition of summer and feature some unreleased books publishing between late June and approximately mid-September. June    Your Destination is on the Left by Lauren Spieller | I like the idea of a ~nomad~ family driving their RV around the country. The main character has to decide if she wants to keep her feet on solid ground and take the internship she’s offered. Dahlia Adler recommended this for fans of her book, Just Visiting, and that was enough of a recommendation for me. The Summer List by Amy Mason Doan | This is pretty much enough to sell me: “A tender yet tantalizing novel about two friends, the summer night they fell apart, and the scavenger hunt that reunites them decades later—until the clues expose a breathtaking secret that just might shatter them once and for all.” The rest of the synopsis gets even better too! Wild Blue Wonder by Carlie Sorosiak | I haven’t read her first book yet, much to my sister’s chagrin, but I WILL. Her second novel takes place in Maine so obviously that got bumped right up my list. It seems to have some intriguing magical realism […]

April TBR

My monthly TBR feature here shows my progress based on last month’s TBR, my plans for this month, and anything else I might be thinking about from a reading perspective. Sometimes I feature a little poll at the bottom so you guys can help me figure out a certain title I should read from a group of books. March Progress       Not bad for March! I managed to read two library books (even though technically I did the audio for DATSAB instead of reading the actual book), two egalleys, and my book club selection. I would have gone deeper into some of the other books on my list but I was distracted by the new and shiny OBSIDIO library hold that came in way sooner than expected. Oh well! I also DNFed NO FILTER. On Deck for April Books with Due Dates – Library & Book Club   The Chaos of Standing Still by Brody | The Case for Jamie by Cavallaro The Wedding Date by Guillory | Book Club: Beastly Bones by Ritter I ended up listening to some of the library books I had checked out via audio, which was a cheat-y way to get them out of here, but at least I did! These are my current books. I’ve already started reading and listening to THE CHAOS OF STANDING STILL, and will definitely get to the other two later this month before they’re due back. Also, BEASTLY BONES is our book club pick for later this month! Egalleys    […]

Top Ten Tuesdays #175: Spring TBR

Ten A Lot of Books on my Spring TBR Top Ten Tuesdays were started by The Broke and the Bookish and are now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, where we make lists of our top ten books (or something else!) based on that week’s prompt. The topics are provided ahead of time and can be found here. Book links bring you to Goodreads or my review. I love TBR posts like this because it puts the whole season into perspective, instead of just monthly ones like I usually do. I usually have long-range reading goals based on the books I own and need to read, ARCs on my Kindle/shelves, and book club picks. I’m definitely featuring more than ten because that’s how I roll. Book Club Picks: April/May/June    Jackaby series (#2, #3, and #4) by William Ritter I already know what book club is reading until we finish this series. I’m including April, May, and June here because we’re going to just blaze through them depending on when I come home each month. We started with JACKABY in March, so there are the rest for the spring into summer! Advanced Copies Coming Up      Furyborn by Legrand | Valley Girls by Lemon | Bookish Boyfriends by Schmidt August and Everything After by Doktorkski | The Elizas by Shepard I’m including all of the egalleys that are being published between April and May. I’m keeping away from the June/summer ones just because my list would be… extensive. I know that I WILL read […]

Spring Bingo TBR Ideas

Spring Bingo TBR Ideas

As you know by now, Bookish Bingo is one of my favorite challenges to participate in. I love completing the boards slowly and then learning what’s going to be on the new one! It’s always fun to see a fresh sheet. I usually do very well (either fill the board 100% or miss just a few spots). This one looks really possible to fill the board again and I’m determined to do it! Here are some TBR options (based on books I was planning to read). Reading, finished, and up next:   Family: Legendary by Stephanie Garber Historical fiction: My Plain Jane by Meadows/Hand/Ashton Part of a series: Down Among the Sticks and Bones by Seanan McGuire CARAVAL is very family-oriented, as the whole book involves Scarlett looking for her sister, and LEGENDARY is similar. I don’t remember the synopsis so I won’t spoil anything and am too lazy to check… Let’s just say that the family theme definitely continues. MY PLAIN JANE is a historical fiction technically, but it’s not as historical fiction-y of a retelling (wow, what weird phrasing…) as MY LADY JANE. It’s based on a retelling of JANE EYRE but technically the plot happens back in the day, so it counts. The Wayward Children series continues with book two here, so that counts in a series (even though I guess it’s actually a prequel and not #2). Possible TBR:    Ocean theme: No Filter by Orlagh Collins Unlikeable main character: She Regrets Nothing by Andrea Dunlop Aussie author: Obsidio by […]

March TBR

My monthly TBR feature here shows my progress based on last month’s TBR, my plans for this month, and anything else I might be thinking about from a reading perspective. Sometimes I feature a little poll at the bottom so you guys can help me figure out a certain title I should read from a group of books. February Progress     I feel like I completely forgot the books I genuinely NEEDED to read in February when I made my TBR. There were at least three books I knew I was getting this past month and I just ignored putting them on my TBR. As a result, I didn’t do the BEST job of reading from my TBR (especially after January’s success)… On Deck for March Some Library Books The Chaos of Standing Still – Brody | Public Relations – Healey/Rebolini Down Among the Sticks/Bones – McGuire | The Wonder of Us – Culbertson Beneath the Sugar Sky – McGuire | Nice Try, Jane Sinner – Oelke I’ve had most of these guys out for a while and I’m going to prioritize reading the majority of them before the end of the month. I’m not going to fool myself into thinking I’ll read all of them, but my plan is to (a) read them by order of due date and (b) prioritize the small books by Seanan McGuire because I’ll bang them out. Done! Upcoming Egalleys    No Filter by Orlagh Collins | Starry Eyes by Jenn Bennett | Legendary by Stephanie Garber […]
